Roofs genuinely differ across the city. A concrete tile roof on a sandy block near the northern beaches, a corrugated iron cottage in Mount Lawley and a steel roof under jarrah trees in Kalamunda each raise different questions. The regional pages below explain what is distinctive about each area, so your quote request and the quote you get back are more useful.
Which areas do you cover?#
The whole Perth metropolitan area: the northern coastal suburbs, the southern corridor, the eastern suburbs, the Perth Hills, the western suburbs and the inner city. Use the quote form from anywhere in the metro area.
How does a quote request work?#
- Describe the job. The quote form asks for your suburb, postcode, roof material, height, timing and what you have noticed. “Not sure” is fine for the roof questions.
- A local roofer reviews it. Your request goes to a roofer who works in your area and handles that type of job.
- Inspection and quote. The roofer contacts you to arrange an inspection where needed, then quotes in writing.
- You decide. There’s no obligation to go ahead. Our quote comparison guide helps you check what’s included.
What location details should a request include?#
A few plain facts about the property help the roofer plan the inspection and arrive with the right equipment. You do not need to give your full street address in the first request.
- Suburb and postcode. Together they help with travel planning and with identifying the local government for permit questions.
- Roof material, or “not sure”. Concrete tile, terracotta tile, steel, a suspected asbestos cement roof or something else.
- Height. Single storey, two storeys, three or more, or a split-level home on a sloping block.
- Access. Narrow side setbacks, a steep or long driveway, steps, a pool or fragile paving below the eaves, shared walls with a neighbour or street parking only.
- Exposure. Whether the house is close to the beach, backs onto bushland or has large trees over the roof.
- Known rules. Heritage listing, a heritage area, bushfire prone mapping or a strata scheme, if you know about them.
- Photos. Taken from the ground, from inside the house or from a safe window. Never climb onto the roof for a photo.
Height and access affect both safety planning and price, as our guide to roof repair costs explains.
How do roofs differ across Perth’s regions?#
Each regional page covers the housing, conditions and local rules that set that part of the city apart.
Northern suburbs
The Cities of Joondalup, Wanneroo and Stirling cover older post-war streets, large areas of tile and steel roofs built from the 1970s onwards and new estates still under construction. Salt air and wind along the beaches are the recurring themes. Read roofing in the northern suburbs.
Southern suburbs
From Melville and Canning to Cockburn, Gosnells, the Armadale plain, Rockingham and Kwinana, the mix runs from river-side homes and mid-century houses that may have asbestos cement roofs to newer estates, with coastal and industrial exposure in places. Read roofing in the southern suburbs.
Eastern suburbs
Bayswater, Bassendean, Belmont, the City of Swan and the Kalamunda foothills include heritage areas in Bassendean and Guildford, newer estates such as Ellenbrook, hot summer easterlies and bushfire mapping near the scarp. Read roofing in the eastern suburbs.
Perth Hills
Kalamunda, Mundaring, the Swan and Armadale hills and Serpentine Jarrahdale bring bushfire prone mapping, embers, leaf litter, tall trees, steep blocks and roofs that feed rainwater tanks. Read roofing in the Perth Hills.
Western suburbs and coast
Between the river and the ocean, from Floreat and Cottesloe to Fremantle, salt air meets older character homes, terracotta and occasional slate, heritage approvals and tight lots. Read roofing in the western suburbs.
Inner suburbs
The Cities of Vincent, Perth and South Perth, the Town of Victoria Park and inner Bayswater have many Federation-era and inter-war homes with corrugated iron, bullnose verandahs, chimneys and box gutters, plus specific re-roofing permit guidance. Read roofing in the inner suburbs.
What about properties outside the metropolitan area?#
For Mandurah, the Peel region or further afield, include the exact location in your request. Distance affects travel time, material delivery and waste removal, so the roofer will factor it into the quote.
Frequently asked questions
Can I request a quote if my suburb is not named on this site?
Yes. The regional pages give examples of suburbs and local governments, not a complete list. Any home in the Perth metropolitan area can request a quote.
Why does the form ask for a postcode as well as a suburb?
Some suburbs fall within more than one local government, and similar suburb names are easy to confuse. The postcode helps the roofer plan travel and work out which council to ask about any permit or heritage question.
Do I need to be home for the inspection?
Arrange that with the roofer when they contact you. Many roof inspections can be done from outside, but they may need to see ceilings, the roof space or access through a side gate.
