How we write and check our guides

Short answer

Our guides are researched against official sources, written in plain English for Perth homeowners and dated when published or updated. We do not publish invented prices, statistics, reviews or project claims. Images are illustrative and labelled. If you spot an error, email us and we will check it and correct the page.

Good roofing decisions start with accurate information. This page explains the standards behind every guide on this website, so you can judge how much weight to give it.

Where does the information come from?#

Where a page mentions WA rules, consumer rights, safety requirements or climate, we rely on official and primary sources, and we list them at the end of the page. The main ones are:

  • Consumer Protection WA for quotes, deposits and consumer rights;
  • Building and Energy and wa.gov.au for building permits, registered builders and the Home Building Contracts Act;
  • WorkSafe WA and WA Health for asbestos and safety;
  • the Bureau of Meteorology for Perth climate information;
  • DFES for storm and bushfire preparation;
  • local government websites for council-specific guidance;
  • manufacturer technical guidance, such as BlueScope’s, for product-specific matters like coastal corrosion.

General roofing knowledge, such as what a valley iron does or why pointing cracks, is explained in plain terms and kept separate from anything that depends on your particular roof.

What we leave out on purpose#

  • Prices. We do not publish dollar figures for roofing work. Prices depend on the roof, access and agreed scope, and an average can mislead. Our cost guides explain the factors instead.
  • Invented numbers. No made-up statistics, lifespans or warranty periods.
  • Unverified claims. No fabricated reviews, ratings, credentials, addresses or project stories. Real projects and feedback will only appear with evidence and permission.
  • Advice to climb on your roof. Every checklist is written for observations from the ground, from inside the house or from a safe window.

How guides are written and reviewed#

Guides are drafted with the help of AI writing tools, then checked against the sources listed on each page before they are published. Every page shows the date it was last updated. We review guides when official guidance changes and when readers point out errors or gaps.

Images and diagrams#

Photographs on this website are illustrative images created to show typical Perth roofs, roof parts and kinds of work. They are labelled “Illustrative image” and do not show a real contractor, customer or completed project. The labelled diagrams are drawn to explain roof parts and types of work, not to scale. We will add genuine project photography, with permission, when it is available.

Corrections#
